The customer needed a high-temperature masking tape for a high-volume exterior part. The part was painted with a base coat, pearl coat, and clear coat, totaling 50-80 microns of cured paint over the tape. The tape had to withstand oven curing at 105°C for 45 minutes while adhering to complex, curved surfaces. It also had to be removed in one piece without leaving residue. Standard crepe tape tore due to the thick paint layers, causing it to come off in pieces and creating inefficiencies in the automated line.
